Tokyo Steel, the main EAF-based steel producer in Japan, has continued to raise its scrap purchase prices. Specifically, this time the company has announced a JPY 1,500/mt (around $13/mt) increase in its scrap price for its Utsunomiya mill. Following the revision, the new price levels for H2 and shindachi scrap at the abovementioned plant have been increased to JPY 56,000/mt ($493/mt) and JPY58,000/mt ($510/mt), respectively.
Meanwhile, scrap purchase prices at Tokyo Steel’s other mills have remained unchanged. On balance, the company’s current levels for H2 scrap are at JPY 52,000-59,000/mt ($457-519/mt), while for shindachi scrap they are at JPY 54,500-65,000/mt ($478-571/mt). The lower end is still valid for the Takamatsu plant, while the higher end is for the Tahara plant. All prices are delivered and effective from October 28.
