The major EAF-based steel producer in Japan, Tokyo Steel, has decided to expand its production in its Tahara Plant, mainly for hot rolled coil (HRC). In order to secure more scrap, it has opened a new scrap yard in Nagoya. SteelOrbis has learned that they are aiming to secure 10,000 mt of scrap per month at the yard.
Tokyo Steel has announced its prices for H2 grades at Nagoya yard at JPY 57,500/mt ($442/mt), delivered, effective from June 6, similar to the prices already announced for the Utsunomiya plant on May 31. For now, the Nagoya yard will not accept shindachi scrap. The producer has not announced a price revision for its other plants. As a result, prices for H2 scrap are still at JPY 56,000-57,500/mt ($431-442/mt) depending on the mill.
The Shindachi scrap price range of Tokyo Steel has also remained stable, at JPY 58,500-62,000/mt ($449-477/mt).
