Significant decline in Turkish domestic scrap market

Since SteelOrbis’ report published on September 2, all Turkish mills have cut their domestic scrap procurement prices. The scrap market in Turkey is going through an overall declining trend as Turkish mills have decided to slow their production, citing costs and the lack of steel demand. The reduction in the local Turkish scrap market has totaled TRY 100-400/mt or $6-22/mt over the past week, with the decrease on dollar basis widened by the depreciation of the Turkish lira against the US dollar. Depending on the trend of deep sea scrap prices, another downward revision in the local Turkish scrap market next week will not be a surprise.

As a result, the general range in the local Turkish scrap market for the benchmark DKP grade scrap has declined from TRY 6,200-7,600/mt ($340-417/mt) to TRY 6,000-7,350/mt ($329-403/mt).
