Ship scrap prices reach $300/mt CPT in Turkey’s Izmir region

Local ship scrap purchase prices have increased further in Turkey’s Izmir region. On Thursday, December 12, Turkish mills have announced a hike of $1-7/mt depending on their scrap needs. As a result, ship scrap prices in the region are now in the range of $295-300/mt CPT with only Cebitas giving the indicative level of $260/mt CPT because the producer is currently not interested in scrap purchases. Though the import scrap prices increase is still the major driver of ship scrap quotations, one Turkish mill has set its purchase price for ship scrap at  $300/mt CPT because it needs high quality raw material, and this is the main reason prices have reached this level.

Market players expect that, after the ex-US deal heard in Turkey at a higher price level today, the ship scrap purchase prices of Turkish mills may go up again.
