Local ship scrap purchase prices have moved up again in Turkey’s Izmir region. On Friday, December 13, some Turkish mills have announced an increase of $4-5/mt in their ship scrap purchase prices depending on their scrap needs. As a result, ship scrap prices in the region are now at $300/mt CPT with only Cebitas giving the indicative level of $260/mt CPT because it is currently not interested in scrap purchases. Market players expect that Turkish mills in the Izmir region will take a pause for a while from revising their ship scrap purchase prices, as they will wait for deep sea import scrap quotations to reach and exceed $300/mt CFR in Turkey.
This week, steel producers in the Izmir region have increased ship scrap prices almost every day. As a result, prices have increased by $10-13/mt compared to Monday and by $15-20/mt compared to the level seen last Friday.
