The Italian scrap market has remained substantially stable in the past two weeks. Some steelmakers, namely those producing rebar, have asked for reductions of €5/mt on the maximum prices seen in the past week, but domestic scrap prices have remained virtually unchanged or are even slightly up compared to March 23. According to sources, most local suppliers are now aiming at renewing their contracts at the same prices seen in March. “Demand is good. Local finished steel prices are mostly going up. I expect scrap prices to remain stable until mid-April, and then they may trend upwards,” one supplier commented.
