On January 17, SteelOrbis reported average scrap import prices to Bangladesh from various origins at $330/mt CFR on containerized shredded scrap and $315/mt CFR on containerized HMS I/II 80:20. The average price included various source countries including the EU, US, Middle East, Africa and other regional suppliers. Scrap offers from the EU and UK to Bangladesh were reportedly at $335-340/mt CFR, while HMS I/II 80:20 offers were reportedly at $320-325/mt CFR.

Sources now inform SteelOrbis that import scrap prices to Bangladesh have ticked up on global movements led by higher Turkish import prices and increased buying activity. The average scrap prices to Bangladesh from various origins are now reported at $333/mt CFR on containerized shredded scrap and $318/mt CFR on containerized HMS I/II 80:20, up $3/mt for both grades. Scrap offers from the EU and UK to Bangladesh were reportedly at $338-343/mt CFR, while HMS I/II 80:20 offers were reportedly at $323-328/mt CFR, up $3/mt on both grades.

With local scrap prices firming up, activity in the import scrap mart, and “overall positive economic indicators into Q1,” a source believes that market will continue the slight uptick in import scrap prices.
