Brazilian pig iron producers in the north of Brazil are closing deals to export the steelmaking grade product to the US at $420/mt, CFR conditions to a port in the US East coast, a source from a local exporter told SteelOrbis.

Such price translates to $405/mt, FOB conditions, against $400/mt FOB one month ago.

The source mentioned that the demand from the US remains consistent, but no significant price changes are expected in the short term.

In May, Brazil exported 93,000 mt of pig iron, but no tonnage was shipped from the producers in the north, a fact derived from the non-availability of ships during the month, the source said, adding that shipments from the north were restored in June.
