Pig iron producers in the north of Brazil are closing deals to export the steelmaking grade product to the US in a range of $410/mt to $415/mt, CFR conditions, to a port in the US east coast, against $420/mt one month ago, a source from a local exporter told SteelOrbis.
Such price translates into a range of $398/mt to $403/mt, FOB conditions, considering a freight rate to $12/mt.
In June, Brazil exported 105,000 mt of pig iron, against 93,000 mt in May.
The US were the main destination, 72,300 mt at $392/mt, all shipped from producers in the north of the Brazil, while 18,500 mt was shipped to South America also at $392/mt, 11,100 mt to Italy at $408/mt, and 3,000 mt to Asia at $457/mt. All prices are FOB conditions and were probably negotiated in April.
