More downward revisions in local Turkish scrap market

Friday, 10 January 2020 18:57:14 (GMT+3)   |   Istanbul

The domestic scrap market in Turkey has seen some more downward revisions as compared to earlier this week, partly to offset currency fluctuations. A decrease of TRY 60/mt in prices has resulted in a $6-7/mt decline in prices on dollar basis, while a drop of TRY 20/mt has allowed prices on dollar basis to remain relatively stable. In the meantime, the mills who have kept their purchase prices stable in the national currency have raised their prices on dollar basis by $3-4/mt. Sources say the currency fluctuation is one of the key reasons for the downward revisions by mills. In addition, the producers may adjust their local purchase price levels downwards in anticipation of some weakening in the import segment, SteelOrbis understands.
