In line with our predictions made before the Christmas holiday, 2017 has begun with price increases in the local Italian scrap market. While there is currently still a lot of confusion regarding prices, it already seems clear that this month the rising trend of prices will be more significant than had been anticipated. Local market sources state that there has already been an increase of up to €15/mt in prices compared to the end of December and further increases are expected. Currently, busheling prices are at €240-265/mt ($254-281/mt), shredded prices are at €245-270/mt ($260-286/mt), while HMS prices are at €230-255/mt ($244-270/mt), with all prices including delivery and excluding VAT.
