Domestic mills’ scrap purchase prices in Russia have been moving on diverse trends this week depending on the region, with some mills decreasing the price level in the local currency, thus offsetting the currency fluctuations. Others have slightly raised their price, adding $5/mt to the US dollar equivalent, specifically in the Ural region. Moreover, the sources expect an additional RUB 200-300/mt ($3-4/mt) drop in the central region of Russia. However, the situation may change according to the developments in the export scrap segment. In particular, exporters from the Baltic region have increased their A3 scrap purchase prices by $16/mt (RUB 1,000/mt) since mid-month to $306/mt (RUB 23,000/mt) CPT, SteelOrbis has learned. The latest import scrap deal to Turkey has been closed at around $448-450/mt CFR from Belgium, according to sources’ calculations. Prior to this deal, ex-Baltic scrap was sold at $440/mt CFR.
No significant price change is expected at least until the end of next week, taking into account that the Russian market will be on holiday until May 4.
