According to sources, domestic scrap prices in Italy have remained virtually stable over the past two weeks. High quality scrap prices remain strong because the order books of producers of high grades of steel are on the full side, while there is pressure on lower quality scrap prices due to problems linked to the performance of rebar sales. However, according to sources, at present the availability of scrap is lower compared to demand, for low quality scrap also. As a result, some market players do not rule out the possibility that local scrap prices may increase slightly in the coming period.
Average spot prices in the local Italian scrap market are as follows:
Quality | Average spot price (€/mt) |
Turnings (E5) | 205-215 ($230-240/mt) |
HMS (E1/E3) | 225-235 ($252-263/mt) |
Shredded scrap (E40) | 260-270 ($291-302/mt) |
Busheling (E8) | 250-255 ($280-286/mt) |
