Japan’s Tokyo Steel raises scrap buying prices for third time in month

On February 15, SteelOrbis reported H2 scrap buying prices at three of Japan’s Tokyo Steel sites increasing. The Okayama site was reportedly at JPY 28,500/mt ($258/mt), Tahara site at JPY 31,500/mt ($285/mt), and Utsunomiya site at JPY 32,250/mt ($292/mt), all prices delivered to customer.

Sources now inform SteelOrbis that Tokyo Steel has increased the scrap buying prices at its three sites again, the third time this month. The Okayama site increased by JPY 1,000/mt while the other two sites reportedly increased JPY 500/mt. The Okayama site is now reportedly near JPY 29,500/mt ($267/mt), the Tahara site at JPY 32,000/mt ($290/mt), and the Utsunomiya site at JPY 32,750/mt ($296/mt), all prices delivered to customer. The Okayama site price increased $9/mt, while the Tahara site price increased $5/mt and the Utsunomiya site price increased $4/mt.
