Japan’s Tokyo Steel increases H2 scrap prices at several sites

On August 9, SteelOrbis was informed that Tokyo Steel had increased its H2 scrap purchasing prices by about JPY 1000/mt at its Okayama plant to JPY 34,000/mt ($306/mt) delivered. Prices at the Tahara and Utsunomiya sites were trending at JPY 35,000-35,500/mt ($315-320/mt) delivered in July and into early August.

Sources inform SteelOrbis that Tokyo Steel has increased its H2 scrap purchase prices at all three of its main sites, namely, the Tahara, Okayama, and the Utsunomiya plants by approximately JPY 1000/mt at each location compared to the level earlier in the month. Therefore, the purchasing prices at the Okayama plant is reportedly at JPY 35,000/mt ($316/mt) while prices at the Tahara and Utsunomiya plants are reportedly at JPY 36,000-36,500/mt ($325-330/mt), all prices delivered. In dollar terms, the purchase price at all sites increased by $10/mt.
