Japan’s Tokyo Steel decreases scrap buying prices again

On April 18, SteelOrbis reported Tokyo Steel Okayama site reportedly at JPY 31,300/mt ($280/mt), the Tahara site at JPY 32,500 mt ($290/mt), and the Utsunomiya at JPY 31,000/mt ($277/mt), all prices delivered to customer.

According to sources close to SteelOrbis, scrap buying prices at the Okayama site are now reportedly around JPY 30,500/mt ($272/mt), the Tahara site at JPY 31,700/mt ($283/mt), and the Utsunomiya at JPY 30,000/mt ($268/mt), all prices delivered to customer. The Okayama site decreased $8/mt, the Tahara site decreased $7/mt, and the Utsunomiya site decreased $9/mt.

A source noted that Tokyo Steel has announced a downward scrap price trend at the Utsunomiya plant approximately eight times since late March while the other plants have decreased six times in the same period.
