On December 26, SteelOrbis reported that domestic H2 scrap prices in Japan at mini-mills in Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya were at JPY 30,200-30,500/mt ($272-275/mt), while shindachi scrap reportedly remains stable at JPY 35,200-35,500/mt ($317-320/mt), all prices delivered to customer.
Sources inform SteelOrbis that prices at mini-mills in the regions mentioned above continue at JPY 30,200-30,500/mt ($278-281/mt), while shindachi scrap reportedly remains stable at JPY 35,200-35,500/mt ($324-327/mt), all prices delivered to customer. Due to currency improvements of the JPY against the dollar, H2 scrap prices have increased $6/mt while shindachi scrap has increased $7/mt.
Sources report to SteelOrbis that Tokyo Steel is maintaining scrap buying prices stable at most of its sites and has only decreased scrap buying prices by about JPY 500/mt at the Okayama site again this week. The H2 scrap buying price at the Okayama site is reportedly at about JPY 27,500/mt ($253/mt) delivered to customer. It is the lowest purchase price for H2 scrap compared to Tokyo Steel’s other sites which are estimated by a source at $280-290/mt delivered to customer.
