On May 9, SteelOrbis reported domestic H2 scrap prices in Japan at mini-mills in Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya at JPY 30,300-30,600/mt ($276-279/mt) for H2 scrap and JPY 34,000-34,300/mt ($310-313/mt) for shindachi scrap, all prices delivered to customer.
Sources inform SteelOrbis that H2 scrap prices have ticked down further and are now at JPY 29,800-30,000/mt ($272-274/mt) for H2 scrap and JPY 33,500-33,800/mt ($306-308/mt) for shindachi scrap, all prices delivered to customer. Both H2 and shindachi scrap grades decreased $4/mt from the bottom of the previous respective range and $5/mt from the top of the same range. Sources inform SteelOrbis that South Korea’s Hyundai Steel has decreased its bid level for H2 scrap to JPY 30,500/mt ($278/mt) FOB Japan for the export market, down JPY 500/mt from two weeks ago.
