Japanese H2 domestic scrap prices continue downtrend

On September 3, SteelOrbis reported Japanese H2 domestic scrap prices in the Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya regions at JPY 25,300-25,800/mt ($239-244/mt) and shindachi scrap at JPY 27,800-28,400/mt ($262-268/mt), all prices delivered to customer.

Sources inform SteelOrbis that H2 scrap prices have decreased further to JPY 24,700-25,100/mt ($230-233/mt) and shindachi scrap at JPY 27,300-27,600/mt ($254-257/mt), all prices delivered to customer. Compared to late early September, H2 grade decreased $9/mt from the bottom of the previous range and $11/mt from the top of the same. Shindachi scrap prices also decreased $8/mt the bottom of the previous range and $11/mt from the top of the respective previous range. Over the past week, Tokyo Steel, Japan’s largest EAF, has announced reductions in their scrap buying prices.
