Japanese domestic scrap prices up, mostly stable in dollar terms

On August 13, SteelOrbis reported that domestic scrap prices in Japan increased at mini-mills in Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya to JPY 34,400-34,800/mt ($310-314/mt) for H2 scrap while shindachi scrap, which is considered a prime scrap grade, increased to JPY 39,400-39,800/mt ($356-360/mt), all prices delivered to the customer.

Sources inform SteelOrbis that Japanese domestic scrap prices increased early this week and are now reportedly at JPY 34,700-34,900/mt ($312-314/mt) for H2 scrap while shindachi scrap increased to JPY 39,600-40,000/mt ($356-360/mt), all prices delivered to the customer. In dollar terms, H2 scrap increased $2/mt from the bottom of the previous range with a stable top of the range while shindachi scrap has remained stable over the same period.
