Over the past week, ex-CIS pig iron prices have remained stable at $365-385/mt FOB, while no recovery has been observed in terms of demand for ex-CIS pig iron in the export markets. In line with the expectations, prices in the local US scrap market have continued to increase, rising by $10-20/mt for the November buy-cycle. Amid the lack of signs of a possibility for scrap prices to soften in the short term, pig iron producers are unwilling to decrease their offers. However, even while domestic scrap prices in the US have been clarified at the start of November, the expected recovery of demand for pig iron in the country has not materialized yet. As for the Turkish market, where demand for finished steel is weak and import scrap prices are high, demand for ex-CIS pig iron is slack. Meanwhile, ex-CIS pig iron offers to Italy have remained unchanged over the past week at $390-400/mt CFR, though some deals have been concluded at $380-390/mt CFR as a result of $10/mt discounts.
