During the past two weeks, demand for ex-CIS pig iron in the international markets has remained strong. Market sources state that, having postponed pig iron purchases for a long time due to their expectations of a further fall in prices, buyers’ inventory levels have declined sharply and, with buyers restarting their pig iron purchases, demand for ex-CIS pig iron has also improved. Meanwhile, CIS-based suppliers’ pig iron export quotations have increased slightly. Accordingly, ex-CIS pig iron quotations are now at $330-370/mt FOB, $10/mt higher than the price levels recorded two weeks ago.
