As a result of the Easter and spring holidays in the important export markets such as the US and Europe, international demand for ex-CIS pig iron has been at low levels over the past two weeks. CIS-based pig iron suppliers’ discounts granted in actual sales transactions have resulted in an overall fall in ex-CIS pig iron prices in the given period. After the decrease of $10/mt observed in ex-CIS pig iron quotations, prices are now in the range of $330-350/mt FOB. Market sources expect demand for ex-CIS pig iron to slow down in the short term due to the approaching summer season in CIS-based suppliers’ target markets as summer is traditionally a slow period.
