Over the past week, ex-CIS pig iron offers to the export markets have remained unchanged at $320-330/mt FOB. Following the sharp declines in domestic scrap prices in the US, ex-CIS pig iron quotations to this destination have decreased from last week’s $350-360/mt CFR to $340-350/mt CFR. Subsequently, US-based buyers have concluded ex-Ukraine pig iron bookings and have started to replenish their stocks. While Turkish steel producers’ demand for pig iron is expected to improve as they have increased their scrap bookings recently, ex-Donetsk pig iron offers to Turkey are at $315/mt CFR. Although market sources state that some deals may have been concluded below this level, SteelOrbis has not received official confirmation of the lower transaction prices for ex-Donetsk pig iron deals in Turkey. Meanwhile, ex-CIS pig iron offers to Italy have decreased from last week’s $360-365/mt CFR to $350-360/mt CFR, though Italian buyers’ firm bids are below $350/mt CFR.
