Ex-Brazil pig iron offers to the US show strength

On January 12, SteelOrbis reported ex-Brazil basic pig iron offers to the US at $390-395/mt FOB Northern Brazil ports and $360-370/mt FOB Southern Brazil ports.

Sources inform SteelOrbis that ex-Brazil offers for basic steelmaking pig iron to the US are presently at $400-405/mt CFR. The price reflects offers at approximately $390-395/mt FOB Northern Brazilian port and $370-375/mt FOB Southern Brazilian port. While the northern region offers remain stable in FOB terms, the offers from the southern region have increased by $10/mt from the bottom of the previous range and $5/mt from the top of the same range. A source added that North American buyers are active in the Brazilian pig iron market, including mills from the US and Mexico. In mid-January, a Mexican mill reportedly purchased basic pig iron at $370-375/mt FOB from the southern Brazil region for an April shipment.
