On July 25, SteelOrbis reported that ex-Australia coking coal prices to India ticked down over the past week and were reportedly at $174-175/mt FOB for PHCC (premium hard coking coal) and $159-160/mt FOB for HCC (hard coking coal).
On July 31, SteelOrbis reported general Australian PHCC export offers also declined to $172.5/mt FOB East coast ports while HCC offers for export moved down to $154.2/mt FOB East coast Australia ports.
Sources inform SteelOrbis that consistent with the recent Australian offer data and a further price weakening, offers to India have declined for both grades but more pronounced for HCC. Offers for PHCC to India are presently at $172-172.5/mt FOB Australian port while HCC offers have declined to $151-152/mt FOB. Compared to the latest general Australian offers, PHCC offers declined $0.5/mt while HCC offers declined $2.2-3.2/mt. A source noted that the softness in coking coal prices are largely due to the uncertainty resulting from the US-China tariff effects on the global economy, but India is expected to increase met coal imports as its economy grows.
