Demand for ex-CIS pig iron exports remains slack

Over the past week, ex-CIS pig iron prices have decreased by $7.5/mt on average to $380-385/mt FOB as demand has been slack for a while. Since domestic scrap prices in the US and in Europe have not been clarified so far in the current month of September, CIS-based pig iron suppliers are having difficulties in determining their offer prices to these markets. Meanwhile, steel producers in the US and the Europe are also unwilling to make pig iron purchases before scrap prices are announced. Under these market conditions, no new ex-CIS pig iron offers have been heard in Turkey and in the US, while latest ex-CIS pig iron offers to Italy were at $395-400/mt CFR.
