Wire rod prices in Turkey fall amid weaker demand

Turkish domestic wire rod prices have fallen by $10-30/mt week on week. Specifically, one Izmir-based mill is following an aggressive pricing policy in the local market. As a result, additional discounts are applicable in the Izmir region.

One Iskenderun-based mill opened its wire rod sales at $750/mt ex-works earlier today and closed its wire rod sales after selling some tonnages. However, the final tonnage has not confirmed by the time of publication. Another mill in the region is not quoting any wire rod price for now.

The general sentiment in the local market is negative. The main reasons are that a few end-users are already overstocked and are having difficulties due to their high-priced wire rod stocks when exporting end products (welded wire mesh), against the backdrop of currency fluctuations. Most mills are offering material for November delivery, while limited tonnages are available for October delivery.
