Ex-CIS billet offers have remained stable over the past week, while demand for ex-CIS billet in the international markets has remained at low levels. Since demand for long steel products in Egypt, one of CIS-based suppliers’ main markets for billet exports, is weak, demand for billet in the North African country is slow. Additionally, ex-CIS billet prices are considered to be on the high side by buyers in the Far East, where CIS-based suppliers are in cut-throat competition with Turkish billet exporters, and so no new ex-CIS billet sale to this region has been heard during the past week. On the other hand, having been at very low levels for a long time now, demand for ex-CIS billet in Turkey is still weak. As a result, no new ex-CIS billet offer has been heard in Turkey in the past seven days. Under the current circumstances, CIS-based suppliers’ billet offers to their export markets are at $475-480/mt FOB, while their offers to Egypt are in the range of $490-500/mt CFR.
