While much uncertainty remains in the US import wire rod market regarding the status of the Section 232 tariffs after June 1, sources tell SteelOrbis that interest in imports is still steady, especially considering the aggressive price push upward in the US domestic wire rod market. With US domestic wire rod spot prices hitting the $40.00 cwt. ($800/nt or $881/mt) ex-mill level, even uptrending import offers are still relatively attractive.

Offers for imported wire rod in the US domestic market from Brazil are now reportedly around $34.00-$36.00 cwt. ($680-$720/nt or $750-$794/mt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports, reflecting an increase of $0.50 cwt. ($10/nt or $11/mt) in the last week.
