The US domestic rebar market has slowed somewhat in the last week, and sources attribute the conditions to the upcoming Easter holiday and many people taking spring break vacations. However, once the market resumes, sources expect continued flexibility. Spot prices were already vulnerable to deals from lower US domestic scrap prices in April, and early predictions for May indicate another potential downtrend.
For now, with limited transactions taking place, US domestic rebar spot prices are still in the general range of $35.50-$36.50 cwt. ($710-$730/nt or $783-$805/mt) ex-mill in the Midwest, and $37.00-$38.00 cwt. ($740-$760/nt or $816-$838/mt) ex-mill on the East Coast.
