Although US domestic scrap prices are expected to drop this month, sources tell SteelOrbis the recently-announced $2.00 cwt. ($40/nt or $44/mt) US domestic merchant bar price increase should have “no problem” absorbing into the market when it goes into effect on April 7. As such, ex-mill list prices will rise to the following levels:

However, sources report that there is still rebates and discounting available at the ex-mill level, with larger distributors reportedly selling merchant bar to smaller distributors for less than $1.00 cwt. ($20/nt or $22/mt) above ex-mill pricing.
