Little has changed in the US import wire rod market in the last week, with prices trending generally stable and demand declining a bit due to expected seasonal factors. However, the latest US steel import data show a diminishing list of sources for import wire rod, with a few outlier sources “coming and going as buyers deal with continuing instability” in the import market.

Germany remains one of the top sources for US import wire rod, with over 28,000 mt in import permits for November. Offers for imported wire rod in the US domestic market from Germany are still around $37.00 cwt ($816/mt or $740/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports. Meanwhile, offers from Egypt have gone quiet, as sources say Egyptian mills can’t get their preferred prices in the US market.
