US import wire rod offers have not moved after rising slightly last week, as interest remains low along with availability at the ports. Sources tell SteelOrbis that few recent arrivals are available as spot tonnage, as overall arrivals dwindle. According to the latest US steel import data, US import wire rod permits for September (as of Sept. 24) have totaled 35,452 mt, compared to preliminary census totals of 37,568 mt in August and final census totals of 49,406 mt in September 2019.

With diminished demand, sources say US import wire rod offers will not likely rise much higher, even as US domestic offers trend upward. Current US import wire rod offers from Germany are still in the range of $26.50-$27.50 cwt. ($584-$606/mt or $530-$550/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports.
