Demand for US import wire rod is still lagging behind demand for domestic product, and sources say import inquiry activity remains steady but weak. However, in an effort to attract buyers, the high end of the previous offer price range for wire rod from Germany has declined a bit, and sources say “time will tell” whether it’s enough to boost order books.

As such, US import wire rod offers from Germany are now in the range of $42.00-$43.00 cwt. ($926-$948/mt or $840-$860/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports, down $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt) on the high end in the last week.
