US import wire rod price hard to pin down

With what sources describe as “dreadful” demand due to “virtually nonexistent” interest in wire rod imports, the US import wire prices are reportedly “hard to pin down” because buyers have significant leverage to get lower prices. Because transactions are sparse, the current offer price range reflects what most buyers are hearing in the inquiry stage, and sources say buyers who are serious about ordering can “pretty much name their price.”

Based on inquiries, US import wire rod offers are trending near $26.00-$27.00 cwt. ($573-$595/mt or $520-$540/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports from Germany, reflecting an overall $1.00 cwt. ($22/mt or $20/nt) decline from last week.
