US import wire rod market still defined by low demand

With no change in the demand situation for wire rod buyers in the US, the import wire rod market offers continue to suffer from low interest, although prices have remained steady in the range of $26.00-$27.00 cwt. ($573-$595/mt or $520-$540/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports from Germany—unchanged in the last week.

Additionally, wire rod import arrivals are starting to show the impact of low demand, especially in the aftermath of the pandemic lockdowns, with wire rod import permits only totaling 20,078 mt this month (as of Aug. 18), compared to census totals of 45,744 mt in July.
