The demand situation within the US import wire rod market remains low but stable, sources say, which is supported by little change in import arrivals over the past few months. According to the latest US steel import data, the US imported 33,617 mt of wire rod in September, which is in line with previous months (wire rod imports totaled 37,569 mt in August and 36,966 mt in July).

However, there has been a notable jump in arrivals from Germany this month, with 4,165 mt in import permits as of Oct. 27, compared to 1,362 mt in preliminary census totals for September, although sources say “not much” of those arrivals are available to buyers as positions. As for future arrival offers, prices from Germany are stable week-on-week at $26.50-$27.50 cwt. ($584-$606/mt or $530-$550/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports.
