US import wire rod buyers push for deals

Although demand in the US import wire rod market has not improved significantly in the last week, sources tell SteelOrbis that buyers are pushing for lower prices while sellers are hesitant to narrow margins any further. Officially, import wire rod offers to the US from Germany are still mostly in the range of $36.50 cwt. ($805/mt or $730/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports, but buyers are reportedly pushing for orders in the $35.00-$36.00 cwt. ($772-$794/mt or $700-$720/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports.

Additionally, one source reported import wire rod from Malaysia arriving underneath the “aspirational” range above, although such deals could not be confirmed and US import arrival data is not currently available during the government shutdown.
