As demand for wire rod in the US remains muted, there is a scarcity of interest for imports that sources say “won’t get better anytime soon.” When wire rod buyers need material, they are largely sticking with US domestic producers, and importers say the lack of interest and orders has left import offers “stuck in neutral.”

The last-heard offers for US import wire rod from Germany remain at $26.00-$27.00 cwt. ($573-$595/mt or $520-$540/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports, but sources say that “serious offers” will likely be able to negotiate beneath that range.
