Although many buyers of US import rebar expect offer prices to continue rising, for now the price trend is on pause while importers assess the potential side effects of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Although Russia is a sporadic source of US imported rebar, the war could still have an impact on raw materials and trade in Europe, and sources say they are waiting for any indications of an impact.

As such, US import rebar offers are unchanged week-on-week, but some sources speculate that Mexico could soon take advantage of the uncertainty surrounding overseas producers. For now, offers are stable in the range of $48.50-$50.50 cwt. ($1,069-$1,113/mt or $970-$1,010/nt) DDP Houston from Mexico, and $47.50-$48.50 cwt. ($1,047-$1,069/mt or $950-$970/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports from Turkey.
