US import rebar offers have not changed in the last week, but sources tell SteelOrbis that prices are “not done rising,” especially if demand continues to trend strongly and domestic rebar supply remains tight. Limited supplies of rebar in the US are already evident in import rebar arrivals this month, which are on track to outpace May. According to the latest US steel import data, there have been 86,720 mt in rebar import permits this month as of June 28, while preliminary census data from May show 84,732 mt in import arrivals.

Ample import positions at the port do not appear to be influencing current order offers, which remain unchanged week-on-week at $42.00-$43.00 cwt. ($926-$948/mt or $840-$860/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports from Turkey, while offers from Mexico are still ranging from $41.50-$42.50 cwt. ($915-$937/mt or $830-$850/nt) DDP Houston.
