US import rebar offers stable again, for now

Although some sources attribute the relative quietness in the US import rebar market this week to the Labor Day holiday yesterday, others predict the recent pattern of gradual price downticks followed by brief periods of stability “should be the norm” in the near-term. One source pointed out that some buyers were waiting to see how SDI’s domestic rebar price increase fared, which has not been followed by other mills yet.

By next week or later this week, some sources expect another slight downtick in rebar import offers. For now, prices remain unchanged week-on-week at $45.50-$46.50 cwt. ($1,003-$1,025/mt or $910-$930/nt) DDP loaded truck in US Gulf ports from Turkey, and $46.50-$48.50 cwt. ($1,025-$1,069/mt or $930-$970/nt) DDP Houston from Mexico.
