Although most offers for US import rebar have not changed in the last week, although some sources say that offers are “not firm” and buyers might be able to negotiate downward if the tonnage amount is attractive. The softening trend is attributed to weather, the upcoming holiday season, and perceived weakness in the US domestic rebar market. While the trend could change in January when US import rebar buyers book orders for the spring construction season, for now most import offers are expected to stay relatively stable with some deals available.

Import rebar offers in the US market from Italy and Spain are still hovering around $38.50 cwt. ($849/mt or $770/nt) DDP loaded truck at US Gulf ports, while already-arrived material prices are closer to $36.00 cwt. ($794/mt or $720/nt) DDP loaded truck at US Gulf ports. However, sources report dwindling availability of positions, which isn’t affecting prices because demand is trending slow as well.
