Few new orders for US import rebar have been reported since earlier this month, but sources tell SteelOrbis that buyers have a range of price options to choose from. For already-arrived material at US ports, the lowest-heard offers for imported rebar in the US domestic market from Turkey are around $36.00 cwt. ($794/mt or $720/nt) DDP loaded truck at US Gulf ports. Offers for future arrivals, meanwhile, are trending up closer to $39.00 cwt. ($860/mt or $780/nt) DDP loaded truck at US Gulf ports, reflecting an uptick of $0.75 cwt. ($17/mt or $15/nt) in the last week.
However, demand for US import rebar remains relatively low; sources say buyers are filling inventory holes but holding back on major purchases until there is more clarity in the market regarding tariffs and US domestic prices. Several lawsuits and Congressional actions are working toward eliminating the Section 232 tariffs, and sources say “there’s no telling how it will all shake out.” In the meantime, buyers are facing general uncertainty in the market with caution.
