New uncertainty in the US import rebar market has left buyers in a wait-and-see mode this week. Last week, sources tell SteelOrbis that quotes from Mexico were starting to trickle in, but those offers are now on hold since Donald Trump announced new tariffs against imports from Mexico starting June 10. If the tariffs go into effect, Mexico would once again be pushed out of the US import rebar market, soon after being excluded from Section 232 tariffs.
Meanwhile, SteelOrbis has heard unconfirmed import rebar offers from Turkey coming in at slightly lower than European offers, but sources have not reported firm orders quite yet. US import rebar offers from Spain are still at $33.50 cwt. ($739/mt or $670/nt) DDP loaded truck at US Gulf ports, and offers from Bulgaria and Portugal are around $34.00 cwt. ($750/mt or $680/nt) DDP loaded truck at US Gulf ports.
