Turkish merchant bar export prices rise amid higher import scrap and billet quotations

While demand in the local Turkish merchant bar market has failed to meet producers’ expectations, Turkish mills have also failed to attract the desired levels of demand in their export markets. Except for the African market where Turkish merchant bar mills are still receiving price inquiries, there is no demand for Turkish merchant bar in the export markets, market sources report. Also, Turkish steelmakers’ production costs have increased due to higher import scrap and billet quotations, and so they have increased their export prices by an average of $10/mt over the past two weeks.
