Turkey’s merchant bar export prices have decreased by $15/mt during the past two weeks, with angle prices declining to $490-500/mt FOB in this period. According to sources, $480-485/mt FOB is currently achievable for actual angle sales.

It is heard that Moroccan buyers are still on holiday and are expected to return to the market by next week. Additionally, Turkish merchant bar producers have received enquiries from Israel, Lebanon and Egypt this week. Market sources indicate that acceptable price levels in the Lebanese market are in the range of $480-485/mt C&F Lebanon. Some Turkish rolling mills are heard to be offering products for October shipment to the international market. Meanwhile, the North African market is expected to gain momentum by mid-September.

As of August 23, Turkey has already used 42,622 mt of its 98,937 mt EU merchant bar quota for the new quota period which started on July 1. As a result, Turkey’s merchant bar sales to European countries are expected to continue for some time.
