Turkish wire rod producers have kept their domestic wire rod prices stable week on week at $525-550/mt ex-works. Market sources state that buyers in the local Turkish wire rod market are still cautious since the results of the local elections in some regions have not yet been clarified. Meanwhile, buyers are waiting for the sharp fluctuations of the Turkish lira-US dollar exchange rate to give way to a settled trend.

As the EU quota on Turkish wire rod imports for the February 2-March 31 period had been quickly exhausted, Turkish wire rod producers recently began to conclude sales for delivery to the EU in the subsequent quota period. As of yesterday, April 1, the EU announced that the new “other countries” quota for the April-June period has been opened for all countries, and so Turkish mills are expected to try to gain the biggest possible share of this quota.
