Domestic wire rod prices in Turkey’s Marmara and Thrace regions have decreased over the past week due to lower import scrap quotations. However, in Turkey’s Iskenderun region, where producers have already completed their sales for June, domestic wire rod prices have increased. Market sources state that demand in the local Turkish wire rod market is at very low levels against the backdrop of the ongoing uncertainties surrounding the results of the local election held on March 31, and also due to the recent falls in scrap quotations. On the other hand, wire rod demand in Turkey is still better than domestic demand for rebar. Meanwhile, both buyers and sellers are cautious amid the rapid changes in the Turkish lira-US dollar exchange rate which have recently resulted in further depreciation of the lira.
